Things can happen off the vehicle that can lead to claims.  A classic example is that a person has just exited your vehicle and slips and falls.  The words “slip and fall” seem to go hand in hand with general liability insurance.

Since the slip and fall situation took place outside and away from the vehicle you would need a general liability policy.  Many business owners think of general liability insurance first, as this can protect you from many common risks.

Here are a few things to remember:

  • general liability DOES NOT provide auto insurance
  • general liability DOES NOT cover injuries to employee

If you have employees, and in many cases independent contractors, you will need workers compensation insurance to protect yourself.  In most locations, it’s actually a law that you must purchase workers comp insurance if you have employees.
